I’m a big fan of Textie, produced by Borange and Atebits (creator of the beautiful Tweetie, soon to be Twitter’s only official mobile app), which lets iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users send SMS and picture messages for free not only to other Textie users, but to anyone with an email address or U.S. mobile number.
The one exception? As of this writing, T-Mobile is the only U.S. mobile carrier not cooperating. So even though I still resort to using the iPhone’s built-in SMS for my T-Mobile friends, Textie still saves me tons on text messages for everyone else in my address book, and I hope that T-Mobile will change their tune in the future.
